AGP Inverted

Tribute to Albert-Gustave Piguet

Inspired by the Double Balance Chronometer created by Albert Gustave Piguet as his graduation project at the Vallée de Joux School of Watchmaking in 1932. Legare asks the question… "What if Albert Gustave Piguet didn't join Lemania but instead, decided to create a brand of his own based on his revolutionary double balance wheel differential equipped chronometer?"

The Legare Chapter 1 AGP Inverted

Presented in two executions

A contemporary interpretation of Albert Gustave Piguet's 1932 Double Balance Chronometer, reimagined as a modern wristwatch with two balance wheels, a differential mechanism, and inverted architecture. The perfect geometric harmony of this movement, with the center of each balance and that of the barrel forming a perfect triangle, coupled with the rich finishing, creates a visual and technical masterpiece. The arrangement of the gear train in a dramatic straight vertical line from the barrel to the two stacked fourth wheels. Piguet's idea of placing both seconds wheels and the differential on top of each other created both elegance and a small seconds indicator driven by the differential mechanism.

The Case: Architecture in Titanium

37.5mm × 9.95mm including sapphire crystals

37.5mm × 9.95mm including sapphire crystals. Our case invokes the best of 40's style hand made casemakers, in particular Antoine Gerlach, but executed in Grade 5 Titanium. Every part of our case and every component of our watch is proudly made in Switzerland.

The Legare Calibre

Calibre LC1–AGP–01 features two balance wheels beating at 21,600vph with their rates averaged through a planetary differential. The arrangement improves precision by reducing the effect of disturbances that affect one oscillator more than the other. Both balance wheels are powered using Straight Line Lever Escapements normally used exclusively in tourbillons and also in past Observatory Trial watches. Both our hairsprings feature Breguet Overcoils or Phillips Terminal Curves to aid in concentric breathing

Hand Finishing

Traditional Hand Finishing

While our movement is optimized to be a modern high performance calibre, our barrel bridge is a nostalgic tribute to Piguet's original design.
Wolf's Teeth. Inner Angles. Anglage. Countersinks. Black Polished Steelwork.

Why Chapter I

Tribute to Albert Gustave Piguet (1914–2000)

Albert Gustave Piguet is the legendary technical director of Lemania (1948–1980) and the creator of the world's most famous chronograph calibre, the Lemania Calibre 2310.
But when Piguet was just a student at the Vallée de Joux School of Watchmaking, he created one of the most important watches of all time.
It was this pocket watch that would go on to inspire a generation of watchmakers, becoming one of the most referenced horological achievements of the 20th century.
